词根 -pens-/-pend- 精讲
词根 -pens-/-pend- 源于英国货币的单位 pence 便士，因此它们的种意思是：钱。第二种意思是：吊。(记忆小妙招：中国人喜欢用吊钱。)
那么三者是如何建立起联系的呢?答案是通过辅音通假字变换。
首先，通过次音变规律【z-c-s】，单词 pence 和 词根 -pens- 建立联系(二者在发音上也非常相近)。然后又通过第二次音变规律【s-th-t-d】，词根 -pens- 和 词根 -pend- 建立联系，最终搭起了 pence、-pens- 与 -pend- 之间的联系。
另外，请同学们注意区分：英国用便士pence;美国用美分cent，不要弄混哦。
1、suspend
释义 v. 悬吊;吊销;推迟;暂停
单词拆解 suspend = sus头朝下 + pend吊

译文 本周，伊拉克暂停了石油出口，再次推高了油价。

3、expense
释义 n. 花费，支出
